Don't Be Among Those Who Forgot Allah

Brother Khalifah reflects on verses describing the Qur'an as a warning, a healing, and a mercy, and gives a glimpse into the Day of Judgment when the sky opens and Shaytan abandons those who relied on him. This khutbah reminds us to prepare today for what our souls will present tomorrow, and to hold fast to the Qur'an rather than abandon it.

Brother Khalifah opens by describing the Qur'an as a warning sent to all of mankind from their Rabb, and also as a healing for the hearts of the believers and a mercy for the people of faith. He explains that this gift was given to the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ purely out of Allah's grace, and that nothing in this life compares to the reward of recognizing that favor, whether through prayer, remembrance, or simply gathering as believers. He then walks through a vivid description of the Day of Judgment, when the sky will split open, the angels will descend, and true sovereignty will belong to Allah alone, at which point the disbeliever will bite his fingers in regret, wishing he had taken the Messenger ﷺ as a close friend and admitting he was led astray despite the message having reached him.

He explains that on that day, Shaytan will abandon the very people who depended on him, and the Prophet ﷺ will stand and say that his people abandoned the Qur'an despite it being a warning, a healing, and a mercy, noting that Islam alone has the power to unite people across race, language, and class when truly lived out. Brother Khalifah reminds the congregation that every prophet was given opponents among the wrongdoers, and warns against being like those who forgot Allah and were consequently caused to forget themselves, drawing a sharp contrast between the companions of the Fire and the companions of Paradise. He closes this reflection with the example of the mountain, explaining that had the Qur'an been revealed upon a mountain, it would have crumbled out of fear and humility before Allah, the same humility the Prophet ﷺ embodied in every aspect of his life.

He ends with a brief reflection on Allah himself sending salah upon the believers, alongside the angels, so that they may be drawn out of darkness and guided toward the light and across the bridge over the Hellfire. The practical takeaway he leaves the congregation with is to slow down and reflect deeply on the Qur'an rather than rushing through it, to make du'a for Muslims suffering around the world, and to ask Allah sincerely to be counted among the people of faith rather than assuming it already applies to us.
