The Importance of Self-Reflection in Islam

In this week’s khutbah, Brother Khalifah reflected on the sacred month of Muharram as a powerful invitation to pause and look inward. He reminded us that Muharram is not just the start of a new Islamic year — it’s a chance to reset our hearts, review our choices, and realign our path with Allah’s guidance. Yet, while time is one of our greatest blessings, it is also one of the things we waste the most. Brother Khalifah urged us to recognize how easily days slip by in distractions, heedlessness, or routine, without true purpose. The khutbah called us to use this sacred time for sincere self-reflection: to ask what we’ve done for our souls, what habits need to change, and how we can begin the year with intention, clarity, and closeness to Allah. A stirring reminder that the clock is ticking — and the wise believer is the one who prepares before the time runs out.
