The Rights of Our Parents
In this week’s khutbah, Brother Ahmed spoke about one of the most sacred duties in Islam: how a child should treat their parents. Drawing from Qur’anic verses and the example of the Prophet ﷺ and the Companions (may Allah have mercy on them), he reminded us that honoring our parents is not optional — it is a divine command, second only to worshipping Allah. Whether they are kind or difficult, present or distant, we are still called to show them respect, patience, and mercy. Brother Ahmed emphasized that even a sigh of annoyance is too much in the eyes of Allah. The khutbah was a heartfelt reminder that our parents are a door to Jannah, and that every small act of kindness — a smile, a phone call, a du’a — can bring us closer to Allah’s pleasure. A powerful call to repair, forgive, and serve while we still have the chance.
